Bells boosts senior team

Scotland’s leading pie and pastry manufacturer Bells Food Group, has strengthened its senior team with a number of new appointments, as part of a period of growth and expansion for the iconic brand.

Three promotions have been made to the Board - third generation family members David M Bell (Logistics Director) and Samantha Murray (Finance Director) – and Gordon Smith (Sales and Marketing Director).  Debbie Briody joins the company this month from Highland Spring as Group Operations Director.

Bells was established in 1931 by Donald Bell and today it employs over 220 people across three sites in Shotts, Lanarkshire, producing pies and pastry and its annual turnover is £18.5M and growing.

The appointments are a significant move in developing and growing the business and the new Board members will help drive this growth.

David M Bell has worked in the family business for over thirty six years. From helping out duringschool holidays, joining the van delivery team in 1982, to his current appointment as Logistics Director. He is incredibly proud to be carrying on the traditions of his grandfather and his family.

Samantha Murray began her career in financial recruitment, however she was soon drawn to the family business. In 2018, eleven years after joining the company and working in various roles, Samantha has been appointed as Finance Director.  This is particularly poignant for her as her grandfather and father before her have also held the office of Finance Director and she takes the new position with a great deal of pride.

Joining David and Samantha on the corporate Board is Gordon Smith, who has been appointed as Sales and Marketing Director. Gordon joined Bells in 2015 and has over 20 years’ experience in the food and drink industry in sales, consumer marketing and senior commercial roles. He has played a significant part in the development of the Bells brand since his appointment.

Debbie Briody will join the senior team.  A chartered chemical engineer, Debbie has an MBA as well as 25 years’ experience in manufacturing primarily focused in the drinks industry.

Managing Director, Ronnie Miles said: “We are delighted with our new senior appointments and they signify a real step change for the business, as we build capacity and expertise at a senior level to continue our ambitious expansion and innovation plans.

“Appointing two members of the Bell family to the corporate Board is an absolute honour and both David and Samantha will help shape and secure the success of the business for this and future generations.

“Gordon and Debbie bring a wealth of experience to the company and will help us grow and develop the business even further.”
